Belarusian diaspora representatives in France hold picket near Interpol’s headquarters
Belarusians of France held a picket near Interpol’s headquarters on 3 October 2021. They called on Interpol to stop cooperating with Lukashenko’s regime to prevent Belarusian special services from using Interpol to prosecute the oppositionists who live abroad.
The diaspora representatives sent an open letter to Interpol, in which they explain the situation. They received a reply stating that Interpol applies the Red Notice protocol to Belarus and that every request from the Belarusian special services undergoes a special check. However, Makary Malakhouski’s case proves otherwise. Makary was detained in Poland at the request of the Belarusian police after having fled persecution in Belarus. Therefore, the diaspora representatives went out to protest and call on Interpol to cooperate with the Belarusian democratic forces and BYPOL and to prevent this situation from happening in the future.
