Another criminal case launched against mother of Kalinouski Regiment soldier killed in action

One more criminal case was opened against Natallia Suslava, mother of the deceased Pavel “Volat”, for participation in combat operations on the territory of a foreign state.

Natallia is the mother of Pavel “Volat”, a reconnaissance company commander who was one of the people behind the creation of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment and was killed during a combat operation in the south of Ukraine in May 2022. She holds a PhD in Philology and is a well-known professor at Homel State University. A criminal case was previously opened against her for abetting extremist activity as she gave an interview to the Belsat TV channel. In the fall of 2020, she was sentenced to administrative detention twice. After her release, Natallia sat for an interview with Radio Svaboda, in which she said, in particular, that Siarhei Tsikhanouski was one of her students.

According to the decision of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Pavel “Volat” was posthumously awarded the “Ukraina Ponad Use” (“Ukraine Above All” in Ukrainian) medal.

The Regiment held a military ritual of handing the deceased commander’s medal to his mother. “Boys, I wish you all to return victorious to Belarus!” Natallia Suslava addressed the Kalinouski Regiment fighters. On that day, the Regiment recruits made a solemn vow to remain loyal to Belarus and swore to fight for its freedom and independence.
